Rest, Assured

Best Regards, Live Through This, 10 May 2019
"He is hope when a journey begins, He is strength in the wind, He is faith when my courage wears thin."

Everyone has a basic, important need to feel safe. We can see it from a cute perspective, like a baby would always look for parents’ embrace, or in a logical viewpoint where an adult would register himself to a health insurance, or even in an environmental outlook like how birds would constantly come back to their nest on the tree.

The whole jam-packed and complicated world has created a scarcity of simple things. Sometimes people are too busy to be aware of their surroundings, let alone to look up on The Creator. The phrase “feeling lonely in a crowd” has gradually becoming reality. Granted, we are living in a harsh, competitive, and restless planet where every man is for himself. Every now and then, it is hard to believe that such beautiful assurance may appear in a very modest way. That is, in the natural revelations.

“A hundred thoughts to share and a thousand whispered prayers, a million ways to feel His love and know He’s there.”

We were once taught that God has made general and special revelations. While special revelation might be perceived exclusively towards Christ’s redemption, general revelation occurs in what we see and feel everyday and inclusively understood by all mankind.

Last month, in the midst of uncertainty and confusion, I had to go to somewhere new. I took a train to an entirely foreign city outside my comfort zone, far from my family. It was very cold, especially because I knew nobody was around me. By the time the train passed through a canal, I saw something beautiful. A rainbow.

It was very timely that I could not thank God enough. I felt utterly comforted, as if He heard my loneliness. I never saw such a captivating picture, when I needed His presence the most. It assured me that no matter where I go, God’s presence and love never seem to cease. I could completely comprehend how Ezekiel might feel: Brightness everywhere! The way a rainbow springs out of the sky on a rainy day, that’s what it was like. It turned out to be the Glory of GOD! – Ezekiel 1:28 (MSG). That was when I could sense an overwhelming joy and for the first time in a while, I knew I was not alone.

There is one other natural beauty which I am keen of. We can see it from time to time, we can take a peek from our office window, we can see it on our bustle and hustle way home. It is the sunburst.
I always find it amazing, how the sun still shines its ray of light even when it’s surrounded by dark clouds. It convinces us that regardless of our cloud-like problems, there is always hope. There is always strength. There is always light, an empowering one. Our God is the Living One, and His provision is like the sun shining in full strength.

“So trusting I will go whether long or hard the road, that He will walk each step with me is all I need to know.”

Perhaps, we are currently facing our giants – our clouds. We struggle to discover the answer to our problems, to find closure from our past, to unwind from earthly hassle. Do not give up. While we’re at it, may we always trust our assurance in His loving hand. May we still able to see the splendor of a rainbow, or the magnificent sunburst, as the simplest yet finest way of God’s existence and protection.
